my professional interests
my professional interests
I have been in practice since 2016, and since then have worked in specialist schools, universities, agencies, charities, counselling services and social care settings.

Prior to being a counsellor, I worked in schools. I have 6 years teaching experience in secondary schools, both in the UK and Japan. During this time I have specialised in working with students presenting challenging behaviour and safeguarding issues. I have delivered training for staff and teachers, both in the UK and Japan.

I have worked in social care, providing person-centred care for adults with learning disabilities, and during this period of time developed an interest in mental health support for people who are often overlooked or not considered when mental health is discussed. This led to me writing my MSc. thesis on counselling learning disabled adults, and my interest in counselling's relationship with neurodiversity.

Since the completion of my training I have engaged with a broad range of training, including qualifications in play therapy, neurodiversity, solution-focussed approaches and trauma-informed approaches.

The majority of the work I do now takes place in private practice. I currently offer training and consultancy, and hope to be offering supervision for other counsellors in the near future.

I have an occasional column in local magazine Now Then, which you can read here.

I am an active member of the Psychotherapy and Counselling Union.

my personal interests
I enjoy playing and listening to music, running, cooking and yoga.

I also love reading, and agree with CS Lewis, when he said "You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me."
